Financial institutions face unique archival challenges managing both contemporary and historical content across a variety of media and archival management systems.

As one of the largest banks in the world, Itaú Unibanco faced a number of data management challenges with data spread across separate systems and formats and with different protocols for digitally-born content and for digitised or analogue content.

In the past, the bank has maintained a large archive of client information preserved on microfilm and microfiche. Some of the management challenges include, for example,  the need for microfilm and microfiche to be carefully scanned, frame by frame, resulting in slow access and resource-intensive access process. This approach also posed risk to the data as reels were handled regularly, exposing them to wear and tear.

Itaú Unibanco needed a solution that would modernise its archive, offering sustainability and that could be integrated with existing IT infrastructure.
